Union
County Information Union County was created on March 22, 1813 from part of Northumberland County. The county seat, Lewisburg, is a focal point for visitors. A showcase of Federal and Victorian architecture, Lewisburg has more than 600 original 19th Century buildings in its historic district. Lewisburg also is home to Bucknell University, which was founded as the University of Lewisburg in 1846. Parklands in Union County include Bald Eagle State Forest and Shikellamy, Sand Bridge, and R. B. Winter state parks. Union Countys economy depends on services, such as health care and education, and manufacturing of lumber and wood products. Local agricultural operations also produce field crops, vegetables and potatoes, mushrooms, fruits, and dairy, poultry, and meat products. Other towns and communities in Union County include East Buffalo, Gregg, Hartleton, Hartley, Kelly, Mifflinburg, New Berlin, West Buffalo, and White Deer. Major highways
